Current Projects

A mockup design for Phase 1 of the proposed Peavine Trailhead Improvement Project.

Peavine Trailhead Improvement Project

GDPF is initiating a project that will construct a screening fence to block unsightly industrial views around the Peavine Trailhead area in Phase 1. Our long-range vision includes improved signage and the development of a Master Plan to guide future improvements, more educational resources for visitor connection to the Dells, and other family-friendly additions to the Peavine Trail experience!

GDPF has support from the Prescott Parks and Recreation Department and was awarded a $13,000 grant from the Arizona Community Foundation to bring the first phase of this project to life.

Regional Collaboration

GDPF is working to foster relationships and strengthen communication between environment and conservation-focused groups in the central Arizona region in order to more effectively respond to and address emerging environmental issues.

GDPF is also actively contributing stakeholder inputs to several projects and management plans that may impact the Granite Dells area and related watersheds, wildlife corridors, etc.

Areas of interest include

  • Wildlife connectivity and habitat use, and the impacts of fragmentation on this.

  • Acquisition of open space lands to protect more of the Granite Dells area.

  • Planning and development of a strategy for a Granite Dells Regional Park & Preserve.

  • Supporting actions that lead to strengthened conservation of the Verde River watershed and sustained flow along the mainstem and its headwaters, tributary streams like Granite and Willow Creeks.
