New Screening Fence Dedication at the Peavine Trailhead

On Wednesday, May 24th at 10:00 am, the Granite Dells Preservation Foundation and partners will gather at the Peavine Trailhead to dedicate the recently installed screening fence to the City of Prescott. The fence screens off views of the industrial sites adjacent to the parking lot and trail to enhance the visitor experience at Prescott’s most popular trail.

GDPF wants to thank the City of Prescott, the Parks Advisory Board, the Arizona Community Foundation, Save the Dells, the members of the community, and our contractor, Freedom Fabrication, for their ongoing support.

The plight of  the Granite Dells, an iconic landscape, has attracted international attention from Artists and Biologists Unite for Nature (ABUN). Started by Kitty Harvill and Christoph Hrdina in 2016, ABUN focuses on the conservation of endangered species and their respective habitats. For the first time ever, ABUN is focusing on a threatened landscape, the Granite Dells. A selection of the works generated by this initiative can be viewed at the Spring for the Dells Art Show viewerie wall, on display at the Prescott Public Library through March 30th, 2022.

The Granite Dells Preservation Foundation (GDPF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the Granite Dells area of Yavapai County. The Foundation focuses primarily on fundraising, community education, and supporting projects and initiatives that enhance the visitor experience in the Granite Dells.

With 474 core Dells acres recently added to Prescott’s public natural open space, it’s time to ensure this special place is never imperiled again by permanently protecting it as a Granite Dells Regional Park & Preserve.

GDPF at Dells Fest 2021

Granite Dells Preservation Foundation joined Save the Dells and several other community organizations for a day of celebration of Prescott’s Granite Dells, on Sunday, October 24th at the Watson Lake Upper Ramada. The event served to mark the significant conservation progress made possible by the 473.7 acres transferred into City of Prescott ownership as part of the AED Annexation Deal passed July 13th, 2021.

We greatly enjoyed connecting with Dells conservation supporters new and old to talk about our current projects and the next steps to making a Granite Dells Regional Park & Preserve a reality!

Artists and Biologists Unite for Nature

An international group of artists (Artists and Biologists Unite for Nature or ABUN) has chosen the Granite Dells as its focus for three months! This is the first time the group has worked toward protection of a threatened landscape, which shows how important the Granite Dells is to the entire world. The artists have already produced more than 100 paintings, a few of which are featured here. Granite Dells Preservation Foundation will be hosting events to celebrate the Dells through art, so watch this space and pass the word. We hope to raise funds toward land acquisition and protection, as well as to reach the public to support the Dells in every way possible. Thanks.

Let's make 2019 the Year of the Dells!

2018 was an important year for the Granite Dells. The political action committee Save the Dells made great strides in building public support for the creation of a Granite Dells Regional Park, and the City of Prescott has heard your voices! Now, as we step into 2019, it’s time to start working on this shared vision through new avenues and to expand support for conservation in the Dells even further. We are declaring 2019 the Year of the Dells! This is our only chance to protect this incredible environment; together we can ensure a bright future for this ecological treasure in the heart of Yavapai County. Donate now to directly support our effort, and follow us on Facebook for updates.
